The purpose of this study was to analyze qualitative and quantitative characteristics of paper-pencil test items used for selection of the gifted in science. For the purpose, we developed item analysis framework, and estimated item difficulty, discrimination index, correlation coefficient, reliability, respectively. The results of analyzing qualitative characteristics reveal that we need to develop paper-pencil items require various scientific thinking patterns, especially subject(domain)-specific creative thinking. In case of quantitative characteristics, we need to overcome the vast deviation of item difficulty, and devote our efforts to guarantee the stability of test items. Based on the results, we also discussed ways to enhance the quality of paper-pencil test items for selection of the gifted in science.

이 연구에서는 과학 영재 선발 도구로 사용된 지필 검사 문항의 질적 및 양적 특성을 살펴봄으 로써 보다 양호한 영재 선발 도구를 개발하는데 있어서 필요한 기초 자료를 얻고자 하였다. 이를 위 해 문항의 질적 특성을 분석하기 위해 분석틀을 구안하였으며, 문항의 양적 특성 분석을 위해 고전검 사이론을 적용한 난이도와 변별도, 상관계수, 그리고 신뢰도를 산출하였다. 문항의 질적 특성을 분석 한 결과, 다양한 과학적 사고를 요하는 문항이 개발될 필요가 있으며, 특히 과목(영역)-특수적인 창의 적 사고를 요하는 문항의 개발이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 문항의 양적 특성을 분석한 결과, 문항간 또는 과목간 난이도 편차를 극복할 필요가 있으며, 검사 도구의 안정성 유지를 위한 노력이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 분석 결과를 토대로 보다 양호한 영재 선발 지필 검사 문항 개발을 위한 방안을 논 의하였다.
