The purpose of this study was to investigate the applications of the mentoring program for the mathematically gifted students. The program included face-to-face interactions and cyber tasks among 5 mentors and 5 elementary school students mentees for 8 months. The results suggested that mentoring programs should be introduced as complementary program and also include cyber-mentoring or e-mentoring program. The programs need to extend to provide for students from the low socio-economic background and culturally diverse students. Also, long term and extensive studies should continue on mentoring program for the gifted.

본 연구는 영재교육에 있어서 학습자를 위한 맞춤식 교육으로 멘토링을 활용한 수학영재 교육에 대하여 탐구하였다. 서울교육대학교 과학영재교육원에서 2008년에 실시한 수학영재를 위 한 멘토링 프로그램에 참여한 5명의 초등학교 학생들을 대상으로 면대면 교육 및 사이버 교육 을 통하여 8개월 동안 교육을 실시하였다. 연구결과 멘토링 프로그램은 영재들이 흥미를 가지고 참여하였으며 여러 형태의 그룹 구성 및 운영을 고려할 필요가 있었다. 또한 영재를 위한 일반 교육의 보완 프로그램으로 도입할 필요가 있으며, 사이버 교육의 병행과 함께 사회적 배려 대상 자들을 위한 멘토링 프로그램의 활용 및 지속적인 연구의 필요성을 제안하였다.
