Export played an important role in the growth of the Korean economy. Government has applied export insurance system in order to manage the risks that occurs in the process of export and trading. However, due to the fiscal crisis which was triggered by the recent financial crisis, the risks that Korea Trade Insurance Corporation carry has surged and is still increasing. Trade takes up a big portion of the Korean economy and also the Korean economy is very dependent on trade. In addition to that, the dangers from fiscal crisis is adding up to the risks. Therefore, in order to disperse the corporate risks, corporate controlling theories has been developed which maximizes the effectiveness of corporate activities. These measures are referred to as corporate governance theory and through previous years, corporate governance structures has been improved in order for it to function well. It seems like these theories need to be applied to public institutions such as the Korea Trade Insurance Corporations.

한국무역보험공사가 금융위기 극복을 위하여 무역보험지원을 급격히 늘리는 과정에서 대형보험사고 발생 등으로 무역 보험 기금이 급감하였고, 이에 따라 공사의 위험관리 역량 및 장기적ㆍ안정적인 무역금융 지원 가능성에 대한 우려가 나타나고 있다. 유동성의 쏠림에 의한 위기 발생은 곧 무역에도 큰 영향을 미치지 않을 수 없는 것이므로 무역의 위험을 보험하기 위한 무역보험 업무가 안정적으로 유지 관리될 수 있도록 하는 무역보험공사의 기업지배구조의 검토를 요한다.
