There are claims that make a point that the traditional Korean-Chinese society has been already deconstructed as Korean-Chinese people have comparatively free consciousness of migration and hence have moved not only to Korea, Chinese districts, Japan, and America but also Europe. Of course, there are other claims that point out that the Korean Autonomous Prefecture of Yanbian and Korean-Chinese intellectuals make efforts to excavate Korean-Chinese culture and novel formation of national culture, and the future of Korean-Chinese people is not dark with the return of successful Korean-Chinese persons who establish their enterprises at Yanbian and the engagement of China staying Koreans. However, the large scale migration of Korean-Chinese people after the establishment of diplomatic relation between Korea and China reflects changes in their consciousness. It is the case that Korean-Chinese people’s language, culture, and tradition on their own, which they have kept undergoing the periods of the anti-right struggle and the Culture Revolution after the establishment of the Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Yanbian is gradually weakening. The establishment of diplomatic relation between Korea and China allows Korean-Chinese people to experience Korea’s economic development, and their experience of economic growth in Korea has changed their life and consciousness. Korean-Chinese novels after the establishment of diplomatic relation between Korea and China well specifically reveal the changes in their life and consciousness due to the two nations’ diplomatic relation. Korean-Chinese novels well show the aspects of Korean-Chinese people experiencing chaos of their traditional values with the Korean-Chinese community decomposed, the strengthening of their identity as Chinese citizens rather than their identity as Korean nations on the basis of their experiences in Korean, and their efforts to make a novel hometown with the deepening of Korean-Chinese people’s migration into Chinese districts. Such changes shown in Korean-Chinese people’s life and consciousness due to the deepening of migration substantially show certain aspects of changes which migrants cannot help experiencing.

조선족들은 이주에 대해 비교적 자유로운 의식을 가지고 있어 한국이나 관내 뿐 아니라 일본이나 미주 나아가 유럽에까지 적지 아니 진출하여 이미 전통적인 조선족 사회는 붕괴되었다는 지적이 등장하고 있다. 물론 연변조선족 자치주 정부와 조선족 지식인들을 중심으로 조선족 문화의 발굴과 새로운 민족문화의 형성을 위해 노력하고 있고, 한국에서 연변으로 돌아와 기업을 만들어 성공한 조선족들이나 중국 체류 한국인의 가세로 하여 조선족의 미래는 어둡지만은 않다는 지적도 있다. 그러나 한중수교 이후 나타난 조선족들의 엄청난 규모의 이주는 그들의 의식의 변화를 수반하고 있다. 연변조선족자치주가 성립된 이후 반우파 투쟁기와문화대혁명기를 지나오면서 유지해오던 조선족의 언어와 문화와 그리고 그들 나름의 전통은 점차 그 모습이 약화되어 가고 있는 것은 사실이다. 한중수교는 조선족들에게 한국의 경제적 발전을 경험하게 해주었고, 한국에서의 경제적인성장 체험은 조선족들의 삶과 의식을 변화시켜 주었다. 한중수교 이후 조선족 소설에는 수교에 따른 조선족의 삶과 의식의 변화가 구체적으로 잘 드러나 있다. 이들 조선족 소설에는 조선족 공동체가 와해되면서 그들의 전통적 가치관의 혼돈을 겪는 양상과 한국에서의 체험을 바탕으로 한민족 정체성보다는 중국 공민으로서의 정체성이 강화되는 양상과 관내로의 이주가 심화되면서 새로운 고향을 만들기 위해 애쓰는 모습들이 잘 드러난다. 이주의 심화로 나타나는 조선족의 삶과 의식에 나타나는 이러한 변화는 이주민들이 가질 수밖에 없는 변화의 한 단면을 여실히 보여준다.
