A Study on Intertextuality of Tale ‘Prince Hodong’ and Play ｢Doongdoong Nakrangdoong｣ Park, Kyoung-seon This study examined intertextuality of ‘Prince Hodong’, the hypotext, and ｢Doongdoong Nakrangdoong｣, the hypertext, from perspectives of repetition and transformation. The plot of the hypotext and main characters are repeated in the hypertext. Tragic love between Prince Hodong and Princess Nakrang is emphasized by changing the composition of plot. The importance of love is expressed through their love. In addition, the importance of a process than a result is being emphasized by portraying Prince Hodong as a person who pursues justice rather than expedient. There is also intertextuality of transformation in addition to repetition. Transformation can be found in a structural substitution and addition of a play within a play. The hypertext ｢Doongdoong Nakrangdoong｣ is the work that reconstituted a descriptive literature, which is the hypotext, into a theatrical literature. It shows the main event is not the past one but the current incident by changing narration into play. It also obscures the boundary between reality and fantasy and adds excitement of play for audiences by adding fantasy play and a play within a play called domestic rite. ｢Doongdoong Nakrangdoong｣ is telling contemporary men the importance 420․한어문교육 제27집 of love and an upright attitude of living the world through repetition and transformation of the Hodong tale.
