The position of affairs on the clinical physical therapy and education in United States

Recently, educational curricula upon physical therapy in the United States has been shift to promoting professional physical therapist with expertise based on the profound scientific approaches as well as pursuing prospective vision of physical therapy as a strategy to survive in the violent competition due to the changing concept on health care of medical demands. Also, it has been changed rationale of criteria on social role of physical therapist in health and welfare, which affects not only to reform of educational curricula but also to raise of investment on education with diversity and speciality.
Currently, the demand for physical therapists are gradually increased in medical rehabilitation and welfare in Korea. Since this reason, a number of physical therapist reach to 2000 are going to step on clinical field including hospital and other rehabilitation facilities this year. Unfortunately, still it doesn't enough changing educational curricula and research phenomena in junior college even University wherein inaugurate educational course of physical therapy.
The quantitative increase in manpower of physical therapist could generate of several negative social issues such as lowering the value of the physical therapist followed by decreasing quality of the physical therapist. Eventually, industries of health and welfare including rehabilitation related fields gradually going down to bottom if there is not any effort to rescue this area as like United State described above.
Finally, in this survey report, the curricula of physical therapy in United State are introduced to compare to our phenomena. Based on all of these survey data, thus, we strongly suggest that it should be changed educational curricula for undergraduate program as well as development of the master and PhD course to bring up the expert in this field.
