The effects of static stretching of gastrocnemius and rectus femoris on performance

Purpose : This study is to observe how gastrocnemius and rectus femoris static stretching has acute affect on Standing board jump performance and to be offered basic information for proper stretching which doesn't drop Standing board jump performance when making training program for improved records. Method : The subject of this study is consist of 30 adults in their twenties who don't have any restrictions on the normal movement of their legs and have no special trouble to their musculoskeletal system. The subjects performed Standing board jump before and after stretching. The stretching which is used for this study was one of 4 static stretching method suggested by Nelson(2001b) in order to strengthen rectus femoris and we used Ankle boarder for strengthening gastrocnemius. Results : The mean of Standing board jump record from before-stretching subjects was 175.80㎝ ± 52.23㎝. In comparison with this, the mean of Standing board jump record from after-stretching subjects was 166.96±51.05㎝, which was reduced by 8.84㎝ between the means. Conclusion : In 8 minutes of the stretching, the mean of the subjects' Standing board jump record was 172.53±48.34㎝, which means that against before and after stretching, the records were increased. Thus, we can estimate that Standing board jump right after stretching decreases the exercise performance in the records.
