The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of Self-Consciousness on the relationship between covert narcissism and Social Anxiety. Survey for this study was conducted to 326 high scool students in Metropolitan Seoul with Covert Narcissism Scale(CNS), Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents(SAS-A), Contact-Boundary Disturbance scale. Deta were analyzed by SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 16.0. The results of this study were as follows : First, covert narcissism was positively correlated with Social Anxiety and Self-Consciousness. Second, the relationship analysis by Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) demonstrated that Self-Consciousness was partly mediated the relation between covert narcissism and Social Anxiety. Finally, based on the results, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.

본 연구는 내현적자기애 및 사회불안의 관계를 자의식이 매개 하는지 검증하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 수도권에 위치한 고등학교에 재학 중인 남 여 고등학생 326명이었으며, 내현적 자기애 척도(Covert Narcissism Scale CNS), 청소년용 사회불안 척도(SocialAnxiety Scale for Adolescents:SAS-A), 접촉경계진단 검사(Contact-Boundary Disturbance scale)를 사용하여 설문을 실시하였다. 본연구의 가설을 상관분석과 AMOS를 활용한 구조방정식모형 분석으로 검증하였다. 본 연구의결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 상관분석 결과 내현적자기애는 사회불안, 자의식과 유의미한 정적 상관이 있었다. 둘째, 내현적자기애와 사회불안간의 관계에서 자의식의 매개효과가 어떠한지 알아보기 위해 연구모형과 경쟁모형을 설정하고, 이를 검증한 결과, 자의식이 내현적자기애와 사회불안의 관계를 부분 매개하는 경쟁모형이 더 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 내현적 자기애가 자의식을 매개로해서 사회불안에 영향을 미치는 동시에, 사회불안에 직접적으로도 영향을 미친다는 것을 시사한다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 후속연구를 위한 제언에 대하여 논의하였다. 이러한 결과는 내현적 자기애, 자의식과 사회불안, 나아가 정신 병리의 관계에 있어서 향후 연구를 위한 기초 자료를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
