The theme of Incarnation is the central truth of the Christian Faith from which is derived the principles, modes, and methods of Christian social welfare. This study inquires into the meaning of “incarnation”and the characteristics of the “Spirituality of the Incarnation”which= is founded thereon. Furthermore, this study explains how the spirituality of the incarnation affects Christian social ministry. Incarnation has a host of meanings: appearance, concordance, experience, enlightenment, and vicariousness. These meanings are founded on the spirituality of the incarnation which seeks to embody realized truth, to be together with loved ones, to sympathize with another’s pain, to explain the attributes of Jesus through the way one lives, and to substitutionally bear one another’s burdens. These characteristics of spirituality affect the practice of social welfare. Firstly, the spirituality of the incarnation leads to the actualization of Christian values, principles, beliefs, philosophies, and its worldview as to the practice of social welfare. Secondly, it leads to oneness with the clients. Thirdly, the spirituality leads the practitioner to participate in the concrete problems of the client. Fourthly, it leads one to chose the right model of action by which to first set an example to others. Lastly, the spirituality leads the social worker to substitute the burden of the clients. In this way, the Spirituality of the Incarnation is key to a proper understanding of Christian social ministry.

이 논문은 성육신의 영성을 어떻게 기독교사회복지 또는 교회사회사업의 실천방법으로서 적용할 수 있나를 고민한 것이다. 기독교사회복지는 기독교 영성에 근거한 사회복지라는 사실 때문에 일반적 사회복지와 차별성을 갖는다. 성육신의 영성은 기독교영성의 가장 중요한 기초를 제공한다. 따라서 기독교사회복지는 성육신 영성에 기반을 두어야 한다. 성육신의 영성은“나타내심,” “일치되심,” “경험하심,” “알게하심,” “대신하심” 등의 개념으로 정리될 수 있다. ‘나타내심’의 영성은 깨달은 진리를 체현(體現) 하는 것이고 이는 기독교의 세계관, 철학, 이념, 원리, 가치를 사회복지로 실현하는 것이다. ‘일치되심’의 영성은 사랑의 대상과 함께 있는 것인데 이를 사회복지에 적용하면 “당사자와 하나되기”라고 말할 수 있다. ‘경험하심’의 영성은 타인의 고난을 체험하는 것으로서 “당사자의 현실에 참여하기”라는 형태의 사회복지로 나타난다. ‘알게하심’의 영성은 예수의 모습을 삶의 모습으로 보여주는 것이기 때문에 사회복지로 실현하기 위해서는 “모범적 행동으로 솔선수범하는 것”이다. 마지막으로 ‘대신하심’의 영성은 ‘타인의 문제를 대신 하기’로서 사회복지 안에서 ‘당사자의 문제를 대신 담당하는 것’으로 나타낼 수 있다.
