The purpose of this study is to distinguish factors that influence social welfare activities of churches, focusing on Baptist churches in Daejeon area and identify measures and plans to utilize social welfare activities of baptist churches. For this, Baptists in Daejeon Metropolitan City were surveyed and analyzed. The main results of this study are as senior pastor’s degree of social work practice is high, as Baptists’understanding of church social work is high, as number of visits to social welfare centers is low, as number of education on social welfare in churches is high, as internal and external reponses of churches are high, and as church’s social welfare budget is sufficient the degree of utilization of social welfare programs in church is high. The proposals based on this study are as follows. First, regular education program should be developed to achieve continuous social welfare education for not only the senior pastors but also the members of the church. Second, understanding in social welfare of the members of the church should be enhanced and the relationship with the community social welfare centers should be expanded through continuous education. Third, welfare budget should be increased for systematic and active social welfare activities.

본 연구는 대전지역 침례교회를 중심으로 교회 사회복지활동에 영향을 미치는 요인을 식별하고, 이를 침례교회의 사회복지활동의 활성화를 위한 대책과 방 안을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 대전광역시에 있는 침례교인 을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시한 후 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 조사 결과는 담임목사의 사회복지 실천정도가 높을수록, 교인의 교회사회복지에 대한 인식 이 높을수록, 사회복지기관의 방문횟수가 적을수록, 교회의 사회복지 교육실 시정도가 많을수록, 교회의 내·외부적 호응도가 높을수록, 교회의 사회복지 예산이 충분할수록 교회 사회복지프로그램의 활성화 정도가 높은 것으로 나타 났다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 몇 가지 제언을 해보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 담임 목사 뿐만 아니라 모든 교인들이 사회복지에 대한 지속적인 교육이 이루어지 도록 정기적인 교육프로그램을 개발해야 한다. 둘째, 지속적인 교육을 통해 교 인들이 사회복지 인식을 높이고 지역사회복지기관과의 유대관계를 확대해 나 가야 한다. 셋째, 체계적이고 활발한 사회복지활동을 위해 복지예산이 증가되 어야 한다.
