Culture is one of the significant factors in international advertising and marketing. Focusing on the Asian cultural perspective, this study explores common cultural dimensions and differences of Korea and Japan. Using both Koreans and Japanese as a sample, survey research was conducted. This study found common cultural dimensions of self-expression, normativity, harmony, and conservatism between Korea and Japan. Further, Koreans show higher scores of self-expression and conservatism, and Japanese show higher scores of harmony. Their own cultural dimensions of Koreans are self-expression, normativity, and conservatism. Cultural dimensions unique to Japanese are harmony, self-expression, consideredness, and normativity. Among consumer culture, Koreans show higher scores of additional values and affective advertising. These results could provide academic implications and managerial implications regarding cultural marketing and international advertising.
