This study purpose to explore power relation in character of movement and choreographical methodology of Merce Cunningham by Foucault`s theory. Foucalut suggested his power theory analytically, borrowing espiteme of Plato and pan-opticon of Bentham. Merce Cunningham designed his movement technique and chance method. I will observe Foucalut`s power theory and dance of Merce Cunningham briefly at first. It will be next about analysis about power relation in Cunningham`s abstraction movement and coincidence technique. In Conclusion What Cunningham dance make strong in power is that his movement has unity and his dancer has great ability to perform. Moreover, it is the way to concentrate observers` eye through forming relationships by suggesting their duties.

본 연구는 머스 커닝햄의 움직임 특징과 안무기법에서 나타난 권력관계를 푸코의 이론을 통해 살펴본다. 푸코는 그의 권력이론에서 플라톤의 에스피떼메와 벤담의 일망감시체제를 분석적으로 제시하였다. 머스 커닝햄은 움직임 테크닉과 우연의 기법을 고안하였다. 먼저 푸코의 이론과 머스 커닝햄의 무용에 관해 개괄적으로 살펴본 후 머스 커닝햄의 추상움직임과 우연의 기법에서 보이는 권력관계를 분석해볼 것이다. 이를 통해 내려진 결론은 다음과 같다. 권력 관계를 우세하게 하는 머스 커닝햄의 움직임의 특징은 움직임의 통일성과 무용수의 탁월한 움직임 수 행능력이다. 또한 공연관람 시 의무제시를 통한 관객과 관계 맺기를 통해 관객의 시선을 집중시킬 수 있다.
