Improvement of font producing environment, due to the introduction of computer, increasing number of the public organizations that want to own their typeface and changing the copyright law about typeface, the era of Hangul special typeface is opening. Local Governments have adopted special typeface just after 2000 and have severe problems which are the quality and the distinguishing. This study is Local Governments special typeface research as Public font as a starting point. Analyzed the morphological and structural characteristics of formative elements of consonants and vowels of special typeface. Local Governments special typeface was conducted with the concept of each image of the city, and morphological representation of the form to fit that concept. Analysis of the subject is Seoul, Busan and Jeju typeface. About each typeface were compare morphological and structural characteristics of consonants and vowels of shape, combined, position, and combined etc., However, the present study, the research has been limited to the form of local governments special typeface morphological formative. Local Governments typefaces have challenges that need to extend the functionality of the Public typefaces as applicable strategy, visual identity, Uniqueness, and symbolism. The analysis of Morphologic Hangul typeface for in this study would be useful for those of Korean font designers and developers.

컴퓨터의 도입으로 인한 서체제작 환경의 개선과 전용서체 도입을 원하는 공공단체의 증가, 관련법 개정으로 인한 저작권 보호 등으로 인해 한글 전용서체의 개발이 확산되어지고 있다. 2000년대 이후 지방자치단체들은 전용서체를 개발, 활용하고 있으나 완성도의 미흡함과 차별성의 부족이라는 문제점 등이 나타나고 있다. 본 연구는 공공문자로서 출발점에 서 있는 지방자치단체의 전용서체에 나타나는 자소의 형태적, 구조적 조형요소의 특징을 분석하였다. 지방자치단체의 전용서체는 각 도시의 이미지 콘셉트를 가지고 진행되었으며, 그 콘셉트에 맞는 조형적 형태를 표현하고 있다. 분석대상인 서체는 서울서체와 부산체, 제주서체를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이들 서체들의 자음과 모음의 각각의 모양과 결합에 의한 위치, 균형 등 구조에 관하여 비교하여 조형성을 분석하였다. 하지만, 본 연구에서 이루어진 형태적 조형성 외에 지역자치단체의 전용서체들은 공공서체로서의 적용 가능한 전략과 시각적 고유성, 그리고 상징성 등에 관한 기능을 확장, 발전시켜야 하는 과제를 갖고 있다. 그러므로 본 연구에서 제시한 전용서체의 한글 조형성 분석들이 향후 전용서체의 개발과 유지하는 과정에 유용한 자료가 되기를 바란다.
