It is known that for Descartes God is characterized by a new form compared to earlier philosophers. And the question of God in Descartes is a topic that can show in what sense the Cartesian philosophy is different. In this article, we examine the knowledge of God in Descartes. In fact Descartes discusses the knowledge of God in the same way that knowledge of me. according to him, we can grasp the God in me not by sentiment or passion, but by the mind. Because the feeling or passion is confused and ambiguous knowledge, therefore knowledge of the nature of God is impossible with this. We can only by the mind. And for Descartes, the knowledge of God and knowledge of self are inseparable. It is the God who is creature of me and preserves my existence.

데카르트가 제시하는 신은 이전의 철학자들이 다루던 신과는 다른 새로운 형태의 신으로 잘 알려져 있다. 그리고 데카르트 철학에서 신의 문제는 그의 철학이 이전의 스콜라철학과 어떤 점에서 다른지를 잘 드러내는 주제 가운데 하나이다. 필자는 본 논문에서 데카르트가 단순히 한 신앙인으로서가 아니라 철학자로서 신의 인식의 문제를 다루고 있으며, 신의 인식을 자아 인식과 동일한 맥락에서 파악하고 있다고 해석한다. 내 안에 있는 신을 느끼는 것으로 설명하는 것이 아니라 지성에 의해 파악하는 것이다. 데카르트는 신을 감정 혹은 정념에 의해 인식하는 것에 부정적이다. 이러한 관점에서 그는 이교도와 미신 그리고 신성 모독 등을 정념에 의해 설명한다. 왜냐하면 감정, 정념에서 우리가 갖게 되는 인식은 애매하고 모호한 인식이고 이러한 인식에 의해 우리는 신의 본성에 이를 수 없기 때문이다. 우리는 정신, 지성에 의해 신의 본성을 파악할 수 있을 뿐이다. 필자는 데카르트에서 지성에 의한 신의 본성 인식이 결국 자아인식과 분리되지 않는 것으로 생각한다. 나의 창조주이며 나의 존재를 가능하게 하는 존재가 바로 신이라는 것이다.
