The purpose of this study is to explore what and how the learners might use on their Facebook and investigate the educational value of them in Korean teaching and learning. Many Korean learners use Facebook as a means to communicate and thus there is an increasing emphasis of it in the field of language education. For this purpose, this study examines the types of form of language, content and style . The form of language has been classified into bilingual, code-switch and internet language. The type of content has been classified as providing formal information and expression of personal feeling. According to the classification, Facebook as a communication means has both formal and informal characteristics. Finally, the type of style present multi-modaltext where text, image, music and video from Youtube are combined. These findings have implications for theorizing about new aspects of communication and communication means in Korean education. Moreover, the findings in this paper can be contributed to move viewpoints of study from communication in the classroom to outside of the class communications.

이 연구의 목적은 한국어 학습자들이 페이스북에서 어떠한 언어를 사용하는지, 어떤 내용을 다루는지, 어떤 형식으로 자료를 게시하는지에 대한 분석을 통해 교육적인 가능성을 확인하는 데 있다. 많은 한국어 학습자들은 의사소통의 도구로 페이스북을 사용하고 있지만, 페이스북에 대한 연구는 미진한 형편이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 언어의 형태와 내용의 종류, 내용의 형식 세 가지로 구분하여 각각의 특성을 확인하고자 한다. 먼저 언어적인 측면에서는 이중언어의 사용, 코드 스위치, 인터넷 언어의 사용이 나타났다. 내용 측면에서는 공식적인 정보 전달 내용과 함께 사적인 감정을 표현하는 것이 동시에 나타났다. 마지막으로 자료 형식의 측면에서는 텍스트만을 단독으로 제시하는 것이 아니라 텍스트와 사진, 음악, 동영상 등이 결합된 복합 양식 텍스트가 사용됨을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과들은 한국어 교육에서 새로운 의사소통 매체와 방식에 대한 이론적인 연구에 활용할 수 있을 것이다. 나아가 한국어 교실 연구에만 집중하고 있는 연구 관점을 교실 밖 의사소통으로 전환시킬 수 있을 것이라는 점에서 의의를 찾을 수 있다.
