The purpose of this research is to deduct the interior space characteristics of local children’s center. The research on the actual condition was conducted on a local children’s center in Gangneung-si, which can be summarized as follows. First, most local children’s centers did not consider the outdoor space for children due to being located in existing buildings, and many children’s centers used bathrooms in the existing buildings. Second, a partition divided the interior space of local children’s centers. More specifically, the space was divided into office space, such as the Center Head’s Office and Counseling Office, and instruction space, such as the program room, study room, library, music room, computer room, cooking room, cafeteria, and restroom. Moreover, the instruction space, in other words, the program room, study room, library, music room, and computer room were used together. Third, the specific space characteristics and improvement measures are as follows. An adequate area plan for the main space used by children is required since the interior space shows a low satisfaction rate of area use. In addition, a multi-purpose space plan should be considered since there are many instances in which one space is used together. As an interior element, a plan for finishing materials and coloring is required for each space adequate to the children’s age and a furniture plan considering the height of children is necessary.

본 연구의 목적은 지역아동센터의 실내공간의 특성을 도출하는 것으로 강릉시의 지역아동센터를 대상으로 실태조사를 실시하였으며 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 대부분의 지역아동센터가 기존건물에 위치하고 있어 아동들을 위한 외부 활동공간이 고려되어 있지 않았으며 화장실도 기존건물의 것을 사용하는 경우가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 지역아동센터의 내부공간은 칸막이로 공간구획이 되어있으며 구체적으로 사무실 구역인 센터장실과 상담실, 지도실인 프로그램실, 공부방, 독서실, 음악실, 컴퓨터실, 조리실 및 식당, 화장실로 구성된다. 또한 지도실 즉 프로그램실, 공부방, 도서실, 음악실, 컴퓨터실 등은 공간이 겸용되고 있는 특성이 나타났다. 셋째, 구체적인 공간특성 및 개선방향은 다음의 내용과 같다. 실내공간은 실제로 공간 면적의 만족도가 가장 낮으므로 아동들이 사용하는 주요 공간 면적이 적절한 면적 계획이 필요하며 공간을 겸용하고 있는 경우가 많으므로 다목적 공간계획을 고려하도록 한다. 실내공간요소로는 아동들의 연령에 맞는 각 공간의 마감재 및 색상계획이 필요하며 신체치수를 고려한 책걸상 계획이 필요하다.
