Herpetofauna and Distribution of Each Species in Gwangneung Forest
초록
영어
To list amphibian and reptile species and to determine the distribution of each species in Gwangneung forest, we surveyed the entire areas of the arboretum for amphibians and reptiles over 9 field trips between February and October in 2009. From the surveys, we confirmed the existence of 846 adult amphibians from 10 species and 106 adult reptiles from 11 species from each five families. Dominant amphibian and reptile species was Rana dybowskii and Scinsella vandenburghi, respectively. In special, we found Elaphe schrenckii, designated as an endangered Category I species by the Korean Ministry of Environment, Chinemys reevesii, designated as an endangered category II species as well as a natural monument by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, and Trachemys scripta elegans, designated as an environment disrupting wildlife in the arboretum. We presented the distribution map of each amphibian and reptile species in the arboretum. Our results indicate that this arboretum as a Biosphere Reserve designated by UNESCO could be a valuable area to conserve local amphibians and reptiles in the areas.
