The purpose of this study was to review the historical implications of Dangsaju and its meanings. The conclusion derived from studying Dangsaju is that it is ‘a great learning.’ ‘Studying Dangsaju’ is carried out in the stance of a man who is ‘creating or taking advantage of Dangsaju.’ Its research from the perspective of a person who is going to take Dangsaju is never easy. If one insists that the credibility of Dangsaju should be proved and be concluded in a word, it can be summarized in one word - illogical. Therefore, it can be said ‘it is the most logical.’ Because life itself is far from being logical. A number of items are used to tell a person's fortune in Dangsaju. Such a crude fortunetelling says that it could provide the value and the world of being on the side of those who left behind rather than of the successful in the end. Dangsaju provides the people in the shadow and darkness with ‘sure answers.’ As it helps people understand why their lives are so dark and gloomy, they can avoid being stressed out hereby. It is what so-called ‘destiny.’ However, if one is trapped in the frame of fate and never gets out of there, it can't be the ultimate meaning of Dangsaju. Originally, the word ‘宿命’ should be read ‘life' instead of 'fate.’ Because it doesn't mean ‘sleeping’ but ‘a constellation.’ Definitely, we are destined to live our lives in a certain way by God, that is, we are given our destiny from our birth. We can't escape from given categories. Meanwhile, we can assert that there should be no destiny in practice, for we cannot access ‘the presence of destiny.’ Granted that we were able to access it, we would not understand it; therefore, our answer should be ‘no.’ This is the true meaning of ‘fate.’ Dangsaju or Danggyeol is a space filled with the tears and laughter of the past generations. The study of Dangsaju is to reconfirm the tears and laughter of our generation today, standing on the same place. In conclusion, Dangsaju is not only a cultural or economical or national value and a cultural heritage, but also the life itself.

당사주의 역사적 고찰과 의미하는 바를 음미하는 것이 본 논문의 목적이었다. 당사주를 연구한 결론은 ‘위대한 학문’이라는 것이다. ‘당사주를 연구한다는 것’은 ‘당사주를 만들어 내거나 활용하는 사람의 입장’에서 이루어진다. 당사주를 보려는 사람의 입장에서 연구되기는 결코 쉬운 일이 아니다. 당사주의 진실성을 한 마디로 결론을 내리라고 한다면 ‘논리가 없다’로 요약된다. 그러므로 ‘가장 논리적이다’고 할 수 있다. 왜냐면 삶이란 자체가 논리적이지 않기 때문이다. 당사주는 여러 항목으로 개인 운명의 길흉을 판단한다. 어쩌면 조잡하기까지 한 그 길흉 판단은 결국 ‘성공보다는 낙후된 사람의 편이 되어 살아야 할 가치와 세계를 부여한다’는 것이다. 당사주는 이러한 어둡고 그늘진 사람들 에게 ‘꼭 해답을 들려준다.’ ‘내의 삶이 왜 이렇게 어둡고 그늘진 곳에 위치해 있는지’를 스트레스를 받지 않고 넘어갈 명목을 만들어준다. ‘운명’이라는 이름이 바로 그것이다. 그러나 운명의 틀에 갇혀, 즉 宿命에서 헤어나지 못한다면, 당사주의 궁극적인 의미가 되지 못한다. 원래 ‘宿命’은 ‘숙명’이 아니라 ‘수명’이라고 읽어야 한다. ‘잔다’는 의미가 아니라 ‘별자리’의 그것이기 때문이다. 우리는 분명히 ‘하늘에서 내린 운명’ 달리 말하면 ‘타고난 운명’이 있다. 그 범주를 벗어날 수는 없다. 그러나 그 ‘운명의 실체’를 접근할 수 없기 때문에 실질적으로 ‘운명’은 없다. 있지만, 원천적으로 알 수가 없으므로 ‘없다’는 것이다. 이것이 진정한 ‘宿命’의 의미이다. 당사주 혹은 당결은 지나간 세대 사람들의 눈물과 웃음이 머물고 간 자리이다. 그 자리에서 서서 다시 오늘날 우리 세대의 눈물과 웃음을 확인하는 것이 당사주의 연구인 것이다. 당사주는 문화적 경제적 사회적 민족적 가치이자 문화유산이며 삶의 모습 그 자체인 셈이다.
