The following study explores and analyzes the effectiveness of a developing music therapy program that is aimed at working with the regulation of emotion in children. In this study, the stability of the decrease of negative emotion and the enhancement of cognitive and behavior dimensions were adequately judged as adaptive emotion regulation. The effectiveness of the program was tested with five year old children (n=74). The developed music activity program was applied to the experimental group while another emotion regulation educational program using fairy tale books was applied to the comparative group. The experiment lasted 16 weeks with 32 sessions. The results revealed that the experimental group had significantly higher scores in emotion regulation scores and also had a decrease in negative emotions (eg. anxiety, depression, and aggression) compared to the comparative group. Therefore, the music therapy program for children was found to be effective in enhancing children’s emotion regulation and decreasing negative emotions when compared to another emotion regulation educational program.

이 연구는 유아의 정서조절능력 증진을 위한 음악활동프로그램을 개발하고, 그 효과를 알아본 것이다. 유아의 정서조절을 위해서는 부정적 정서의 감소를 통한 안정, 그리고 인지적 과정과 행동적 과정의 증진이 함께 이루어졌을 때 적응적인 정서조절이 형성됨을 근거로 프로그램을 개발하였다. 음악활동 프로그램의 인지적, 행동적 과정의 요소는 정서조절 문헌을 통해 재구성한 것이며, 부정적 정서는 공격성, 불안/우울, 충동성으로 구성하였다. 개발된 프로그램에 대한 효과검증은 만 5세의 유아를 통해 이루어졌는데, 선정된 유아는 실험집단 37명, 비교집단 37명 총74명이었다. 실험집단에서는 음악활동 프로그램을 실행하고 비교집단은 동화책을 이용한 정서조절교육프로그램을 주 2회씩 4개월 간 총 32회 제공하였다. 분석결과, 실험집단과 비교집단 사이에 정서조절능력과 부정적 정서의 감소에 유의미한 차이가 있었으며, 부정적 정서의 감소는 정서조절능력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다.
