Yangyang county stands first in the nation by the release of young salmon in spring and the catch of salmon in autumn. But salmon has contributed insufficiently to the local industry and regional economy of Yangyang county. The purpose of this study is to find problems and to derive strategies and proper means for industrialization of salmon in Yangyang. Summarizing the results of this study, problems are the shortage of interest and purpose about salmon industry, the insufficiency of the infrastructure for salmon industry, the petty size of salmon production and main non-market value. The strategies for industrialization of salmon are the promotion to cherish salmon and enlargement of the ecological value, the expansion and improvement of the infrastructure for salmon industry, the coordination of manufacturing and marketing and the expansion of market for salmon related, the establishment of the foundation of the cluster, network and RIS. The proper means are fusion and combination of industries for maximization of the ecological value of salmon, the connection of the ecological value of salmon to the peoples in the metropolitan area in eco-tourism with the improvement of accessibility between Seoul and Yangyang. They are great help to the industrialization of salmon in Yangyang eventually.

강원도의 양양군은 연어의 치어방류량이나 성어포획량에서 전국에서 1위를 차 지하고 있다. 그러나 연어가 지역의 산업이나 지역경제에 기여하는 면은 아주 미흡한 상태이다. 본 연구의 목적은 양양연어를 산업화 하는데 있어서 과제는 무엇이며, 이와 같은 문제를 풀기 위해 어떠한 발전전략이 필요한 것인지를 도 출하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 양양연어의 실태와 함께 연어산업화의 많은 실적과 경험을 가지고 있는 일본의 연어산업의 사례를 살펴보았다. 양양연어의 실태에서 도출된 과제로는 연어산업에 대한 관심과 의지의 부족, 연 어관련 인프라의 취약, 연어생산 규모의 영세성, 비시장가치 중심으로 되어 있 다는 것으로 나타났다. 연어산업화를 위한 발전전략으로는 연어를 소중히 여기 는 마음과 생태가치의 키움, 연어관련 기본 인프라의 확충, 가공과 판매를 연계 시켜 시장의 점진적 확대, Cluster, Network, RIS를 구축하는 것이 필요하며, 이와 함께 연어관련 1, 2, 3차 산업의 융복합화로 양양연어의 비시장가치인 생태가치를 극대화 시키고, 접근성이 크게 개선되는 수도권을 생태관광의 목표시장으로 삼아 궁극적으로 양양 연어의 산업화로 연결시키는 것이 필요하다.
