The purpose of the study was to explore the relevance of media framing to the discourse and sub-culture of 'fighting-spirit under injury' in Korean sports. To achieve the purpose of the study, FIFA 2010 U-17 women's World Cup was selected as the case for the study. 60 Newspaper articles of injury appeared during the event (2010. 9. 5-9. 25) as well as three days after the event ended (2010. 9. 26-9.28) were collected using KINDS. Using 'sentence-unit analysis, ' 80 sentences were created and 46 sentences among 80 were finally analyzed deductively. As a result, it was found that newspaper articles related to injury could be divided by two categories; constructive framing and beautification framing. Constructive framing, despite the news articles do not directly recommend or agree for injured athletes to play their games, has a significant relevance to construction of the sub-culture of fighting-spirit under injury to be naturally prevalent in Korean society because it has neglected to mention the risk of playing under injury without necessary criticism. In the case of beautification framing, it enhanced media receivers to develop a notion that fighting-spirit under injury is one of beautiful virtues of the society, because news articles depicted injured athletes playing the game as hero. Based on the result, we urge that media providers to consider its effects of media framing on fighting-spirit under injury. In addition, media receivers need to be critical when they deal with media contents, particularly injured athletes.
