This study involved twenty mentally disabled women who participated in a dance-sports program for sixteen weeks. The women were divided into a training group and a control group. They participated in a dance-sports program for fifty to sixty minutes per day three times a week. During the course of this training we observed changes in body composition and physical strength. The results of this study were: (1)There was a meaningful decrease in body fat and the percentage of body fat. (2)There was a meaningful increase in fat free body mass. (3)There were meaningful changes in endurance, flexibility, agility, and balance. A dance-sports program has two significant advantages- it does not require intensive exercise and it is very accessible to anyone. Given these advantages and the positive results on health and physical fitness, a dance-sports program would be beneficial to mentally disabled women.
