A traditional fairy tale "Kongjwi Patjwi" can be said to be linked to Buddhism in terms of subject matter, character and structure. The meaning of the black cow, toad, locus flower and beads implicitly symbolizes Buddhism. In terms of structure, Kongjwi's revival and the retribution for the sins of her stepmother and Patjwi are associated with Buddhist world view that is based on the theory of dependent origination. Specifically, the next world to which the stepmother and Patjwi went after death typically represents the idea of Buddhism about the hell. The human images of the characters are related to Buddhist human character as well due to the relationship between this fairy tale and Buddhism. Kongjwi expressed her anger against Patjwi who killed her, and this is a human character of anger. Choi Man-choon and Officer Kim who were respectively Kongjwi's father and bridegroom couldn't discriminate between truth and untruth, and they are human characters of stupidity. The stepmother and Patjwi are human characters of greed, namely coveting everything though it belongs to others. The looks of Kongjwi and Patjwi represent Buddhist world view that everybody's life hinges on his or her own choice, and that it is he or she who must be responsible for that.
