Christian spirituality focuses on human perfection through divine help. This research aims to explore the concept of perfection expressed in The Life of by Gregory of Nyssa. It states that there are four meanings of perfection. First, perfection means to be like God’s character. Human beings tend to be self-centered, while divine nature is other-centered, as expressed on the Cross. Moses was the closest human to reaching God’s character. However, perfection is not static and absolute. Instead, it is in the process of growth. Moses was called God’s friend since he passed the process for perfection as best as he could. Third, perfection includes perfection in knowledge. Human beings should also grow in knowledge as they do in character. They constantly repeat the process of comprehending newer and higher truths and leaving it behind for the next level of truth. This process is called apophatic theology because it always requires that the knowledge acquired be left behind. Finally, in absolute silence, human beings have to put themselves before God’s revelation with total acceptance. Forth, the personal advance of perfection gives its benefits to the community. Human beings contribute to their community as much as they advance in the perfection of their character and knowledge.

기독교 영성은 신적인 은혜를 통한 인간의 완전에 초점을 맞추어 왔다. 이 논문은 니싸의 그레고리오스의 󰡔모세의 생애󰡕에 나타난 완전의 개념을 분석하였다. 완전의 개념은 네 가지 의미로 제시되었다. 첫째, 완전은 성품에 있어서 하나님을 닮는 것이다. 인간은 자기중심적인 경향이 있는 반면 신은 이타적인 본성을 가지고 있는데 십자가에서 결정적으로 나타났다. 모세는 하나님의 성품에 가장 가까이 이르렀다. 둘째, 하지만 완전은 절대적 의미의 완전이 아니며 성장의 과정이 중요하다. 모세는 최선으로 그 과정을 통과하였기에 하나님의 친구라고 불리게 되었다. 셋째, 완전은 지적인 측면에서의 완전도 의미한다. 인간은 인격과 함께 신에 대한 지식에 있어서도 성장해야 한다. 그런데 그 성장 과정은 이미 얻은 모든 지식을 부정하고 새로운 지식을 향해 고양해야 하는 것을 의미한다. 이 과정을 부정의 신학이라고 부르는데 그 부정의 마지막 단계는 다만 침묵 가운데 신적인 계시 앞에 수용적 자세로 서는 것이다. 끝으로, 개인적 완전은 완전에 이른 만큼 공동체를 위하여 기여한다. 완전을 향해 인격적으로 지적으로 진보한 것만큼 개인의 완전은 공동체를 위해서 기여한다.
