Japanese Noh called to the NohGaku referred to as a kind of mask dance. The theater is the art of music is. The stage is used extremely limited space of 6m everywhere. So doesn’t extremely used the acting and stage production and the device. If we do not understand the configuration of Noh which transcend of time and space, it will seem as boring art. In this study, one of Japan’s traditional arts, Noh is a target. The purpose of the study of Noh was investigate meaning inherent in the structure and symbolism. And would have the opportunity try to think about difference and similar between a Korean mask dance. The consideration results, as look at aspects such as the symbolism regarding contents of the music, movement, composition of actors, the comparison with Korean mask dance was able to find points. Noh and korean masks dance had the characteristics similar to and had to find different structures.

일본의 노오(能)는 가면무용의 일종으로 노가쿠라 불리었다. 무대는 사방 6m의 극히 제한된 공간을 사용하기 때문에 극단적으로 행동이나 무대 장치 등을 최소화하고 있다. 우리가 시간과 공간을 초월한 노오의 구성을 이해하지 않으면, 그것은 그저 지루한 예술로 보일 것이다. 본 연구에서는 일본 전통 예술의 하나인 노오를 대상으로 그 구조와 가면이 지닌 상징적 의미를 고찰하는데 목적을 두었다. 그리고 이를 통해 한국의 가면극과의 차이와 유사성을 생각하는 기회를 가져봄으로써 한국 탈놀이의 원형찾기 작업과 전인류에 내포된 공통적인 문화적 속성을 음미해 보고자 한 것이다.
