The Study on the Adaptation to College Life by Patterns of Career Choice and Career Indecision

This study examined the effects of patterns of career choice and sub-factors of the career indecision on adaptation to the college life. The subjects of this study were the 481 college students. The result of this study are as follows: First, negative correlation was represented between career decision and adaptation to college life. Second, the results from hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that the patterns of career choice and sub-factors of career indecision explained 7% and 18% respectively on adaptation to the college life. In perspective of life career development, all processes related to career are not the matter to be able to decide at one moment, but it exists as a process. Particularly, college is important time for students to select and to decide the career. Although a career is already fixed, intervention counseling need to be provided effectively for college students by considering the patterns of career choice and sub-factors of career indecision. This study was suggested that it is important to implement the systematic career guidance from elementary, middle and high school days in order to allow them to perform much stable career activities in the important time to select and decide a career. Based on these results, implications and limitations were discussed.
