The Effects of Music Rope-Skipping on Health-Related Physical Fitness of Youth with a Hearing Impairment

This study applied a music rope skipping program for 40 minutes twice a week for 12 weeks in order to examine the effects of music rope-skipping on health-related physical fitness of youth with a hearing impairment with 18 hearing impaired youths. First, after performing the music rope-skipping program for 12 weeks, the subjects showed an average increase of 17.67 in 20-m PACER, and they revealed significant differences before and after the program, which means the music rope-skipping program had effects on the youths’ increase in cardiore spiratory endurance. Second, after performing the music rope-skipping program for 12 weeks, the subjects showed an average increase of 8.05 kg in grasping and an average increase of 7.37 in left front-bending, and they revealed significant differences before and after the program, which means that the music rope-skipping program had effects on the enhancement of the hearing impaired youths’ muscle strength/endurance and flexibility. Third, after performing the music rope-skipping program for 12 weeks, there were significant effects on decreasing the BMI, fat mass, fat mass rate of the experimental group. In terms of such results, we can judge that the music rope-skipping program has had positive effects of youth with a hearing impairment physical strength and physical building. Furthermore, we believe that the program can be used as a beneficial program for the obesity prevention and strength increase among all disabled people.
