This study aims to investigate reading anxieties that KFL learners experience while reading in Korean and to find the sources of reading anxiety. For these purposes, diary studies were conducted during a two-month period with 13 KFL learners. 105 diary materials were collected and the researcher analyzed the entries which are the expressions about a thought or behavior of the reading anxiety. The analyses of the diaries showed that there are many reasons for the causes of KFL learners’ anxiety while reading Korean. According to the results of this study unknown vocabulary, complex linguistic structures, fear of comprehension, and topics are four main sources of Korean reading anxiety. The results of these factors that may cause Korean language reading anxiety can improve teachers’ understandings of students’ reading anxiety and help teachers to create anxiety-free classrooms and help KFL learners get the pleasure of reading in Korean language.

본 연구는 KFL 학습자들이 한국어로 된 글을 읽을 때에 경험하는 읽기 불안에 대해 살펴보고 그것이 발생하는 원인을 밝혀내는 데에 목적을 둔다. 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 13명의 KFL학습자들을 대상으로 두 달에 걸쳐 일지 연구 방법을 통하여 조사를 실시하였다. 총 105편의 읽기 일지 자료가 수집되었고 연구자가 수집된 일지 자료들 중 읽기 불안과 관련된다고 판단되는 내용들을 뽑아내어 분석하였다. 분석 결과에 의하면 한국어 학습자들은 여러 가지 원인으로 인해 읽기 불안을 겪고 있었다. 주요 원인으로는 모르는 단어, 복잡한 언어적 구조, 이해에 대한 두려움, 주제 등이 있었다. 본 연구에서 밝혀낸 한국어 읽기 불안의 원인이 될 수 있는 요소에 대한 연구 결과는 한국어 교사들의 학습자들이 겪는 읽기 불안에 대한 이해를 높일 수 있으며, 불안으로부터 자유로울 수 있는 읽기 수업 환경을 만들 수 있도록 도와줄 것이다. 또한 KFL 학습자들로 하여금 읽기에 대한 흥미를 가지도록 하는 데에도 영향을 미칠 것이다.
