The understanding of discourse needs more dynamic linguistic interactions devoted to the investigation into intended meanings of specific forms of structure. The notion information helps to understand the contextual aspects of discourse, taking into consideration the interactional aspects of grammar. By taking some linguistic structures as examples, the present study aims to investigate in what ways information status is useful in the understanding of the linguistic forms considered here. For this, this study has the following purposes: 1) to explore some linguistic interactions of form and function investigating the several English formal structures, and 2) to see in what way a given structure can be related to a given communicative function or a set of functions in terms of information structure.
