The focus of this article is on articulating family involvement for teachers who working for young children to recognize the importance of family and build collaborative partnerships with families. Literature review base on previous studies is conducted. First, it explores theoretical approachers. Second, it reviews diverse perspectives of family involvement, benefits of family involvement and challenges. Third, it investigates new models of family involvement which achieve successful partnerships between teachers and their families. Finally this review is concluded with an applications and recommendations how teacher educators and practicing teachers can work together with their families for being able to better serve children.

본 연구는 유아교육 현장에서의 교사들이 부모 참여의 중요성을 인식하고 부모들과 보다 협력적인 관계 형성을 위해 그동안 이루어진 부모 참여에 관한 연구가 어떻게 진행되어 왔으며 그 방법론상의 특징은 어떠한지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 1990년부터 2012년까지 발간된 학술지였고, Proquest, PsychoInfo, 그리고 Child Development 데이터 베이스를 통해 ‘가족참여’, ‘부모참여’, ‘유아교육’, 그리고 ‘가족 파트너쉽’의 키워드로 검색된 논문과 책 30편을 발췌하여 분석하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 가족참여 연구의 이론적 배경은 생태학적 이론과 사회문화적 이론에 근거하여 이루어지고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 둘째, 가족참여는 다양한 준거에 의해 정의 내려지고 있으며, 그 이점과 필요한 과제에 대한 모색이 이루어지고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 셋째, 교사-가족 간 성공적인 파트너쉽 형성을 위해 가족 문화를 존중하고 이를 교육과정에 반영하도록 하는 새로운 형태의 모델이 제안되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 앞서 밝혀진 연구들을 통해 유치원 현장 교사들이 유아들의 가족들과 보다 긍정적인 관계형성을 위해 필요한 지침을 제공하였다.
