The purpose of this study is to suggest the systematic planning of multi-cultural education by investigating multi-cultural education we developed for young children on their creativity and caring thinking. The research subjects are 50 children from two different kindergartens located in Song-pa-gu in Seoul. For 7 months (from March to September 2010) 33 activities from 6 themes and 11 teaching materials were applied; children were tested by TTCT (Torance Test of Creative Thinking) and Caring Thinking Test. The research results are as follows: multi-cultural education activities had a positive effect on the increase of both children’s creativity and caring thinking. The research suggests that the young children require multi-cultural education activities consistently that encourage them to think flexibly about possibilities and to make judgments together about information (themes) which they are interested in to increase their creativity and caring thinking.

본 연구의 목적은 다문화 교육 활동이 유아의 창의성과 배려적 사고에 미치는 영향을 알아봄으로써 유아교육기관에서 행해지는 다문화 교육의 체계적인 방안을 마련하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 서울시 송파구에 위치한 E 유치원에 재학 중인 만 5세 유아 25명과 송파구에 위치한 A 유치원의 만 5세 유아 25명으로 총 50명이다. 본 연구를 위해 개발된 다문화 교육 활동은 총 6개의 생활주제에서 나온 총 33개의 활동이며, 관련 교구는 총 11종이 개발되었다. 2010년 3월부터 2010년 9월까지 약 7개월간 유아들에게 적용되었다. 다문화 활동이 유아의 창의성과 배려적 사고에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 각각 토랜스(TTCT) 창의성 검사와 배려적 사고 검사를 실시하였으며, 두 가지 검사 모두 비교집단에 비해 실험집단이 유의미한 긍정적인 차이를 보였다. 본 연구를 통해 다문화 교육활동은 몇 가지 주제에 의한 일회성 교육이 아닌 연간 생활주제를 통해 이루어져야 하며 다양한 문화 체험 뿐 아니라 비판적 사고와 창의적 문제 해결이 나타난 교수-학습방법을 통해 지속적으로 이루어져야 창의성 및 배려적 사고 함양에 긍정적 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사하였다.
