This paper analyzes the change of comparative advantages in shipbulding industry among Korea, China and Japan, using the Trade Specification Index(TSI), Revealed Comparative Advantage(RCA) and Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage(RSCA). Each index is calculated by Harmonized Commodity De-scription and Coding System(HS) from Korea Customs Service and The Korea International Trade Association. After 2005, China's TSI and RCA have increased rapidly in low value shipping industry by China's state aid and shipping industry incentives. In 2010, TSI of three countries was 0.97(Japan), 0.92(ChIna) and 0.87(Korea) and RCA was 5.6 (Korea), 01.9(Japan) and 01.4(China) in that order. On the other hand, this paper also examines more details with analyzing of the highly competitive types of ships like carries, tankers and marine plants. On all indicators, Korea has outperformed China and Japan but after 2000, China has been aggressively chasing Korea. This result implies that China's competitiveness is in the uprise in shipping industry whereas relatively, the competitiveness of Korea and Japan has been congested.

본 연구는 한국과 중국 · 일본 간의 조선산업에 있어 경쟁이 치열한 화물선과 탱커선 그리고 시추선을 중심으로 지난 10여 년간의 무역통계를 바탕으로 한 · 중 · 일 3국의 경쟁력 비교우위 변화를 측정하였다. 수출경쟁력 비교를 위해 무역특화지수(TSI)를 그리고 경제규모가 다른 국가 간 비교우위와 비교열위를 파악하기 위해 현시비교우위지수(RCA)를 사용하여 함께 비교 분석하 였다. 한 · 중 · 일의 TSI지수를 비교 분석한 결과, 2004년 0.51이던 중국이 2005년 이후 경쟁력이 급격히 강화되었다. 주요 선종별로는 화물선 부분에서 벌크선 등의 저부가가치선의 수출이 크게 늘면서 중국의 TSI가 2004년 0.64에서 2010년 0.97로 개선되었으며, 일본은 2003년 이후 정체양상 을 한국은 고부가가치선인 시추선 부분에서 경쟁력 우위를 보이고 있다. 한편, RCA 지수는 한국과 일본이 각각 2003년 5.5, 2.0에서 2010년 5.6, 1.9로 큰 변화를 보이지 않았으나 중국은 0.7에서 1.4로 경쟁력이 강화되는 양상이다. 특히 화물선과 탱커 부분에서 중국의 성장세가 뚜렷한 것으로 나타나고 있다.
