The new material Hangul-gasa manuscript is a nonfiction styled gasa which describes the life of Nimnangja(임낭자), a laday from a Sadaebu(士大夫) family. It is a scroll 791 centimeters wide and 26 centimeters long. The text of this full-length gasa contains nearly 352 lines and 7,000 words. With the transcribed passage '신 구월 증양일 등셔랴' at the end of the text, the word 'Upo(우포, 郵票)' can also be an evidence to estimate the specific time. The estimated period of this transcription is Sinsa(辛巳), Sep. 9, 1941, the year after the foundation of Ujeongchongguk(Centeral post office) in 1884. is a creative work which features the descriptive structure of novel as well as the characteristics of gasa in literature, it, moreover, is full of the elements of Gyeongsang dialects in Korean linguistics that is a contributing factor to the study of Korean characters in life. In conclusion, this study has been focused on the utilization and enjoyment of letters of those days and studied in its word notations, sounds, and grammatical characteristics. Furthermore this work has verified that traditional notations and modern orthography coexisted, at the same time, being transcribed, distributed, and enjoyed even in 1940's and identified the actual status of Gyeongsang dialects.

새 자료 한글필사본 <님낭자가랴>는 사대부가 여인 임낭자의 삶을 노래한 소설체 형식의 가사이다. 두루마리본으로 크기는 가로 791cm, 세로 26cm이며, 본문은 무려 352행, 글자 수는 7,000여 자에 달하는 장편가사이다. 말미에 ‘신 구월 증양일 등셔랴’라는 필사 기록이 있는데, 본문에 나오는 ‘우포’라는 어휘를 통해서 구체적인 시기를 가늠할 수 있다. 추정되는 필사 시기는 1884년 우정총국 설립 이후에 해당되는 신사년, 즉 1941년 9월 9일이다. <님낭자가랴>는 문학적으로 가사의 성격과 서사구조의 소설 성격을 동시에 가지고 있는 독창적인 작품이지만, 국어학적으로도 경상도 지역의 방언의 요소를 풍부히 내포하고 있어 문자생활 연구에도 일조할 수 있는 중요한 자료이다. 따라서 본고에서는 당시의 문자 활용과 향유 측면에 초점을 맞추어 어휘의 표기 형태와 음운, 문법적 특징들을 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 1940년대에도 전통적 표기법과 현대 한글맞춤법과 서로 공존한 채, 필사ㆍ유통ㆍ향유되었다는 사실과 함께 다양한 경상도 방언의 실태를 확인하였다.
