There is a lending library of at the library of DongYangMunGo(東洋文庫) in Tokyo Japan. This text was written in 1908, Seoul Chosen(朝鮮). This DongYangMunGo text had not the whole contents of the original which was created by Nam young-no(南永魯), the 19th Century. Nam young-no put the critical thinking about a diverse character, astonished affair, natural event, political issue etc into the original text with ambiguous writing. But, the manufacturer of lending library disliked the author's theme, characters, events, background and main thinking. So, the manufacturer rewrote a with his own thinking. As a result, this DongYangMunGo text had a separated the original. DongYangMunGo text corrected a reversed status with wives and mistress, and made a character clearly by deleting antinomic words and deeds, and so on. So DongYangMunGo text had a clearly division at the virtue and evil, and conservative ideology. The manufacturer of lending library had been thought about the Cultural Topology of the 19th and the early 20th Century. He had believed that the many readers would want to read a text given joy, pleasure, delight and satisfaction, not to read serious text. That's a capacity of the people had lived in that time.

일본 동양문고에 소장되어 있는 동양문고본 <옥루몽>은 세책본이다. 1908년에 필사되어 서울 지역에서 유통되던 이 동양문고본은 원 <옥루몽>의 서사를 온전히 지니고 있지 않다. 주인공 양창곡의 자녀들이 활약하는 후반부를 삭제하고 급하게 마무리한 텍스트이다. 이렇게 축약된 축약본 계열의 다른 이본들과 면밀하게 검토한 결과, 연대16장본과 가장 친연성이 높다는 것을 밝혀냈다. 동양문고본은 <옥루몽>이기는 하지만 몇 군데 <옥련몽> 화소를 차용하기도 하고, 의도적으로 원 <옥루몽>의 서사와는 다른 방향으로 개작과 변개를 시도한 이본이다. 그렇게 개작한 이유는 원래의 <옥루몽>이 지니고 있는 내용과 가치가 중세 체제중심적 가치에 부합하지 않고, 인물들의 이율배반적 행동이 적절치 않다고 판단해서이다. 그래서 동양문고본은 선악의 분명한 이분법적 대립과 체제중심적 가치를 목표로 의도적인 개작 변개를 시도했다. 그 결과, <옥루몽> 원작이 의도했던 중층서술과 미묘하게 내재시켰던 체제비판적 긴장미와 흥미, 다채로운 인물 형상화와 활성화된 배경 등의 특징이 사라지고, 조금 색다른 내용이 있는 군담소설처럼 되고 말았다. 이런 변개와 개작은 세책업자의 의도 때문이었는데, 그것은 이런 분명한 선악의 구분과 체제옹호적 가치가 당대 일반 대중의 취향과 수준에 맞을 거라도 판단했기 때문이다. 당대 문화지형에서는 이런 도식적인 위안과 쾌락을 얻는 이야기가 더 설득적이었던 것이다.
