Today, cities have become chaotic and uncomfortable spaces both visually and psychologically to pedestrians due to a development-driven policy and reckless commercialization although these urban spaces are supposed to be recognized as beautiful and pleasant spaces. Also, restructuring projects of such physical environment of cities have failed to reflect quickly changing diverse demands of pedestrians. Accordingly, it is necessary to conduct empirical research into urban design in which those pedestrians may participate. However, most existing studies on urban design have been carried out from the perspective only of specialists; thus, relevant problems such as the failure of properly reflecting the opinions of pedestrians about urban streetscape, have emerged. Therefore, in order to consider not only the view of specialists but also of pedestrians on the physical components of urban design, first, this study aimed to identify any difference in the recognition of the physical components of urban design through a correlation analysis of the difference in recognition of urban design between specialists and pedestrians.

오늘날 도시는 개발 우선의 정책과 무분별한 상업화 등으로 인해, 아름답고 쾌적한 공간으로 인식되어야 할 도시의 공간들이 보행자들에게 시각적으로나 심리적으로 혼란스럽고 불편한 공간이 되고 있다. 또한, 이러한 도시의 물리적 환경에 대한 개선사업들은 빠르게 변화하는 보행자들의 다양한 요구들을 반영하지 못하고 있다. 따라서 이러한 보행자들이 참여하는 도시디자인에 대한 실증적인 연구들이 필요하다. 하지만, 도시디자인에 대한 선행연구들의 대부분이 전문가적인 관점에서만 이루어지고 있어 도심 가로경관에 보행자들의 의견이 제대로 반영하지 못하는 등의 문제점들이 발생하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 도시디자인 의 물리적 구성요소들에 대해 전문가들의 견해만 아니라 보행자들의 의견을 함께 고려하기 위해, 우선 전문가와 보행자 간의 도시디자인에 대한 인식의 차이를 상관관계 분석을 통해 도시디자인의 물리적 구성요소들에 대한 인식차이를 규명하고자 하였다.
