The twenty-first century represented the extension of mass media based on the technology and it spread out to many different fields. Therefore it brought about the convergence and communication between various genres and fields. While the variety of forms in convergence and communication were leading into culture, some pieces of cultural arts attempted to surpass the limitation of creation in arts, and it created the new way of forms in Performing arts. This study focused on how to utilize visual images in Performing arts, which titled the play I Am you and attempted an analysis aspect of visual images in the play. Moreover, I suggested the idea on new figure of the convergence and communication for audiences and producers. For this study, I used an idea that there are two kinds of images that are optical, visual, objective image and subconscious, imaginative, and mental image from Palul Virillio. Utilizing images in the play I Am you were effective with expending stage space beyond the limitation of time and space. Also this could stimulate audience’s sensory function and maximize the sense of reality. As a result, the audiences and actors in the play could develop relationship actively and communicate interactively.

21세기의 다양한 융합은 학문, 산업, 예술 분야에서 다양하게 전개되고 있다. 이는 이원론적 경계가 무너지고 분야 간 연계성과 상호작용성이 점차 확장되는 탈근대사회의 한 모습이라 할 수 있다. 본고는 특히 문화예술분야에서도 나타나는 장르 간 소통과 융합을 연구하기 위하여 연극 <나는 너다>에 나타난 연극과 영상의 융합 양상을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 연극과 영상의 결합이 지닌 예술적 의미를 살펴본 후, 연극 <나는 너다>의 작품 분석에서는 뷔릴리오의 광학, 시각, 객관적인 이미지와 잠재적, 상상적, 심적인 이미지로의 분류 방식을 원용하여 이 작품이 기존 연극의 영상 활용과 어떻게 차별화되고 창작 방법과 예술적 경험에는 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지에 대한 분석과 논의를 진행하였다. 그 결과 연극 <나는 너다>는 영상과의 융합을 통해 작가, 연출가와 같은 예술가의 창작 방법을 확장하는 효과와 함께 디지털 시대의 관객들에게 훨씬 넓은 상상의 공간을 제공함으로써 예술 향유의 새로운 감각을 불러 일으켰다는 점에서 의의가 있는 것으로 평가되었다. 특히 기존의 제한된 무대로부터 자유로운 가상의 시공간을 통해 관객의 이해를 돕고, 관객의 감성적 수위를 증강시킴으로서 마치 관객 자신이 연기자가 된 것 같은 몰입의 극대화를 통해 쌍방향 커뮤니케이션을 만들었다는 점은 연극 <나는 너다>가 지니는 중요한 의의라 할 수 있다.
