A Meta Analysis of the Effects of Exercise Programs for Children

The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the effects of exercise programs for children. 50 articles that were released between 2001 and January 2012 and included empirical data met the criteria for inclusion in the meta-analysis. The results of this study were as follows: First, The effect sizes of both physiological function variables and physical function variables proved to be statistically significant, and both had almost the same effect sizes. Second, among the set of the physiological function variables, the most influential variable related to the effects of exercise programs for children was BMI. The effect sizes of the TG, muscle mass, body fat, LDL-C, TC and the percent body fat were moderate, and the effect sizes of the Weight and Height were small. Third, Among the set of the physical function variables, the most influential variable related to the effects of exercise programs for children was cardiopulmonary stamina. The effect sizes of the back strength, grip strength, balance, quickness, speed power, endurance, flexibility and Agility were all moderate.
