Korean Churches should contribute to the society, but the society remains worried about the role of churches and their social responsibility. In this critical situation, how can Korean churches cope with the difficulty? How do they contextualize the Bible and Christian tradition in modern society? To address this issue, this research describes the current features and perception of the Korean church in society. It deals with the reasons for the negative image of Korean churches, such as loss of Christian nature, lack of quality and reliability of Christian leaders and conservative and exclusive political dispositions. In order to overcome this negative image, the study suggests Spirituality education as a solution. In particular, Spirituality education can help congregations to build a strong Christian Character, live as citizens who have a sense of responsibility and interact with the other people of different cultures and religions. In addition, it suggests the direction of Spirituality education that can contribute to Korean society by improving the spirituality of Korean Christians.

교회가 사회에 기여해야 하는데, 오히려 사회가 한국교회를 걱정하고 있으며 교회의 공적 역할을 기대하고 있다. 이런 위기상황 속에서 한국 교회는 어떻게 이를 대처해 나갈 것인가? 한국교회는 기독교의 성서의 말씀과 전통을 어떻게 현대 사회에 상황화 할 것인가 하는 물음이 직면하게 된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 실제적인 문제에 대해 논의하기 위해, 먼저 한국 교회의 현실에 대한 분석하였다. 또한 분석을 통하여 교회가 기독교의 본래의 뜻을 잃어버리고, 종교지도자에 대한 자질과 신뢰도가 떨어지며, 교회가 배타성과 보수성의 정치성향을 나타내는 것을 그 원인으로 살펴보았다. 이를 해결하기 위한 방안으로 새로운 패러다임을 개발할 필요성을 언급하였고, 한국교회가 나아갈 방향으로 바른 영성을 추구하고 발전시킬 수 있는 영성교육을 제안하였다. 이 글에서 제안한 영성교육으로 기독교인의 인격을 형성하는 영성, 삶의 현장에서 책임감 있는 시민으로 살아갈 수 있는 영성, 다문화 된 사회 속에서 대화의 공간을 여는 영성을 다루었다. 또한 하나님께서 인간에게 부어주신 영성을 손상시키지 않고 잘 발전시킴으로써 기독교인들이 그들 안에 온전한 하나님의 형상을 회복하고 나아가 인간사회에 이바지할 수 있는 영성교육의 방향을 제시하였다.
