The contents of "Towards Koinonia Communion in Faith, Life and Witness", title of The 5th World Conference on Faith and Order held in Santiago de Composteia, Spain during the period of August 3-14, 1993 show not the monolithic unity or absorptive integration type unity(of the Roman Catholic Church) but the visible unity through diversity. It is not in a simple reduction of various traditions of a variety of denominations to one common factor but in Koinoinia through which theological truth is searched for and mission and social participation shall be done by all the dominations as purposes. The search of theological truth is for getting answers about “what all dominations would confess as the faith of the Church?” In fact, we had submitted a report on Koinonia at the request of the WCC Central Committee in 1987 before we announced in the event. The important meaning of Santiago event was to have a time to discuss about the Church unity as Koinonia adopted by Canberra WCC General Assembly in 1991. The purpose of God's creation in the Bible discussed there is to get all creatures under Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. They also discussed that the church should taste Koinonia in advance with God and fulfill Koinonia with all human beings and creatures through prayer and practice in the glory of God. So it was reported that Church unity can establish holy, catholic and apostolic churches by fulfilling Koinonia with apostolic confession of faith, one baptism, one Eucharist, mutual acknowledgment and reconciliation to other schools' membership and order, evidence, and serving. The paper of above topic consists of introduction and five chapters. The introduction shows the appearance of new church at the age of revolution. The content of each chapter is as follow: Chapter I Understanding Koinonia, Chapter II Joint confession of faith for the glory of God, Chapter III Sharing community life in Christ, Chapter IV Calling for common witness for the new world, Chapter V Church's growth and achievement by promoting Koinonia, and expectation. The concrete alternatives were also prepared in Chapter V.

1993년 8월 3일-14일까지 스페인 산티아고에서 열리는 제5차 신앙과 직제 세계 대회의 주제 “신앙과 생활과 증거에서 코이노니아를 지향하여”의 내용은 획일주의적 일치나 흡수 통합식(로마 가톨릭교회)의 일치가 아니라 다양성을 통한 가시적 일치를 말하고 있다. 그것은 단순히 여러 교파들의 다양한 전통들을 하나의 공통 요인으로 축소시키려는 것이 아니고 모든 교파들이 무엇을 교회의 신앙으로 함께 고백할 것인가? 를 위하여 코이노니아를 통한 신학적인 진리를 탐구하며, 그 목적을 신앙과 생활과 그 증거에서 선교와 사회참여를 이루는 코이노니아에 있다고 하겠다. 사실 이 대회에서 발표하기 전에 1987년 코이노니아에 대하여 신앙과 직제위원회가 WCC 중앙위원회의 요구에 의하여 연구보고서를 제출한바 있고, 1991년 켄버라 WCC 총회에서 채택된 코이노니아로서 교회일치에 대한 논의가 있었던 점이 산티아고 대회의 중요한 의미가 있었던 것이다. 거기서 논의 되었던 성경에 나타난 하나님의 창조 목적은 성령의 능력에 의하여 모든 피조물을 구주가 되시는 예수 그리스도 아래로 모으라는 것이고, 교회는 하나님과의 코이노니아를 미리 맛보고, 기도와 실천을 통하여 하나님의 영광 속에서 인류, 모든 피조물과 코이노니아를 이루라는 것이다. 그래서 교회일치는 사도적 신앙고백, 하나의 세례, 하나의 성찬식, 타교파의 회원권과 직제의 상호 인정과 화해, 증거, 섬김에서 코이노니아를 이루는데서 하나의 거룩하고 보편적인 사도적인 교회를 이룩할 수 있다고 보고 했다. 그래서 위의 주제를 중심으로 하여 서론과 다섯 개 장으로 되어 있는데, 서론은 “변혁의 시대에 새로운 교회의 모습, 제I장은 코이노니아의 이해 , 제II장은 하나님의 영광을 위한 공동 신앙고백, 제III은 그리스도 안에서 공동생활의 나눔, 제IV은 새로운 세계를 위한 공동 증언의 소명, 제V장은 코이노니아를 증진시켜 교회의 신장과 성취 그 기대”라는 구체적인 대안을 마련하였다.
