As the regional difference in china is a very important factor to consider seriously in making FDI decisions, this paper studied the motivations of foreign direct investment in Shandong province of China for the global and the Korean firms. Using the panel data during the year 2000-2005, the paper examined the determinants of FDI in Shandong province based on the market access hypothesis and the factor proportions hypothesis. The empirical results found that both the factor proportions hypothesis and the market access hypothesis are influential on the global and the Korean FDI in Shandong province. However, for the Korean FDI, the market-seeking FDI pattern is a little more prevalent than FDI from the factor proportions hypothesis. Also, most of the FDIs in Shandong province are centralized in peninsular cities, and the market-seeking FDI pattern in these cities is more obvious than in non-peninsular cities.

이제는 중국 전체에 대한 일반론적인 해외투자연구를 넘어서서 중국내의 지역적 차이를 고려하여 개별 지역에 대한 FDI결정요인 및 이에 맞는 해외투자 전략을 세워야 시점이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 최근 2000-2005년까지 산동성의 각 시별 패널자료를 사용하여 세계 각국과 한국기업의 대 산동성 FDI 결정요인을 실증분석하였다. 또한 산동성 내에서 반도도시와 비반도도시로도 구분하여 대 산동성 FDI의 결정요인을 비교분석하였다. 분석결과 먼저 세계 각국 및 한국 기업의 대 산동성 FDI는 시장추구형과 생산효율추구형이 함께 나타나고 있다. 반면에 한국의 경우 세계의 대 산동성 FDI보다 약간 더 시장추구형 투자형태를 나타내고 있다. 둘째, 경제발전이 더 앞선 반도도시의 경우 FDI가 주로 시장추구형 투자형태를 보여주고 있는 반면에 내륙지역인 비 반도도시는 주로 정부의 투자 혜택 정책으로 통하여 외국인 직접투자를 유치하고 있다.
