One of the defining characteristics of the born-global firm is the rapidity with which it enters international markets following inception. But very few empirical studies in the international entrepreneurship field to date are designed specifically to capture and interpret elements of FDI timing. Because of difference in resource profiles and organizational attributes of individual firms, we can expected that there are some significant difference between born global firms in terms of FDI timing. This study investigate the factors that influence the FDI timing of Born global IT firms. Consistent with previous research, it is hypothesized that firm resources and organizational attributes influence FDI timing. Two categories of resources, global business experiences and technological resources, were found to be associated with early FDI commitment. But, unlike previous research, there is no specific relationship between marketing ability and FDI timing. The organizational attribute that influenced early entry was greater firm size.

본 연구는 IT산업에 속한 벤처기업들을 대상으로 태생적 글로벌기업에 속하는 기업들의 해외투자 실행속도 결정요인을 살펴보고 있다. 태생적 글로벌 기업들은 사업초기부터 해외시장을 대상으로 경영활동을 행한다는 공통점이 있으나, 기업들의 자원 프로파일, 조직특성 차이 등의 요인으로 인해 각기 다른 해외투자 실행 속도를 보이게 된다. 회귀분석 결과, 국제사업활동 경험이 상대적으로 많은 기업일수록, 연구개발 집약도가 높은 기업일수록, 그리고 기업규모가 큰 기업일수록 재빨리 해외투자를 실행하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 광고집약도와 기업의 수익성, 다각화 정도 등의 변수들은 태생적 글로벌 기업의 해외투자 실행속도에 아무런 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
