This study aims to analyze factors determining site selection of foreign direct investment by type and, based on the analysis results, make policy recommendations to contribute to selective attraction of foreign direct investment and invigoration of the local economy. Factors determining investment sites were divided into four realms of incentives, social infrastructure, production elements, and industrial environment, and correlation on satisfaction of sites housing foreign direct investment was investigated. The result shows that they were satisfied with inexpensive land prices in terms of incentives, with proximity to raw material suppliers and convenient transportation and communication in terms of social infrastructure. As for production elements, they were satisfied with overall areas with the exception of living convenience facilities. This study ultimately aims to contribute to efficiently attracting foreign direct investment and invigorating the local economy through empirical analysis of decisions on investment regions by foreign direct investment.

외국인투자유치는 각 국가간의 경쟁뿐만 아니라 지자체간 경쟁이 매우 심화되고 있다. 현재 우리나라에 대한 전체 외국인직접투자기업의 약 70%가 수도권에 집중되어 새로운 지역불균형의 원인이 되고 있는 실정이다. 이와 같은 현상은 산업정책 뿐만 아니라 지역정책 차원에서 외국인투자정책에 대한 종합적인 검토와 논의가 필요함을 시사한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국내에 투자한 외국기업들이 우리나라 투자환경을 어떻게 생각하고 있으며, 투자지역으로 결정한 곳의 만족도가 어느 정도인가를 분석하고자 하였다. 한국의 투자환경을 살펴본 결과, 한국에 투자한 주요동기는 한국 내 판매가 가장 높게 나타났으며, 한국시장의 중요성도 매우 높게 나타났다. 또한, 투자지역의 결정요인과 외국인투자기업이 입지한 지역 만족도 간의 상관관계를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 인센티브 요인과 저렴한 지가 간에는 상관계수가 양의 상관성이 있어 투자지역을 인센티브 요인에 의해 결정한 외국인투자기업일수록 저렴한 지가에 만족하는 경우가 많았다. 또 사회 하부 구조 요인과 만족도간의 상관계수는 원자재지원업체 근접, 교통 및 통신 편리, 생활 편의 시설 등은 유의한 것으로 나왔다. 또한 생산요소 요인, 기업환경 요인 등도 대체적으로 만족도가 높게 나타났다.
