This paper examined the meanings of ‘samdong(三同)’ and ‘saksaki(삭삭기)’, the most cryptic words in . ‘Samdong’ and ‘saksaki’ have been translated as ‘three bunches’ and ‘dry’ respectively. However, these translations lack reliability because they only depend on contemporary linguistic forms. Investigating the meanings of the words of their time is required. This paper searched for the usage of the words through ancient books such as ≪Seokposangjeol(석보상절)≫ and ≪Nogeoldaeunhae(노걸대언해)≫ and verified that ‘samdong’ and ‘saksaki’ refer to ‘three flowers’ and ‘soft’ respectively. The literary meanings based on the new translation were also discussed. has been interpreted as expressing harsh emotions, invoked by the words ‘samdong’ and ‘saksaki’, which were believed to convey negative feelings of excessiveness and barrenness. On the contrary, implies more elegant emotions upon my new translation. In this point of view, this paper argued that the aesthetic value of should be reconsidered.

본고는 『악장가사』에 수록되어 전하는 ｢정석가｣에 나타난 난해구인 ‘三同’과 ‘삭삭기’의 의미를 수록 당대의 문헌을 통하여 검증하고, 문학적 향방을 가늠해 본 결과물이다. 그간 이 두 어휘는 ‘三同’의 경우는 ‘세 묶음’, ‘삭삭기’의 경우는 ‘바삭바삭’ 등으로 이해되어 왔다. 그러나 이러한 기존의 파악은 현행어에만 의존한 것이었기에 재고의 여지를 지니고 있었다. 이로 본고는 당대 문헌 자료의 조사를 통해 이 두 어휘에 대한 ‘당대적 의미’를 찾을 필요가 있다고 여겼다. 그 결과, 『석보상절』에 나타난 ‘곳 동’, 『노걸대언해』에 나타난 ‘삭삭한 뼈(脆骨)’ 등을 접할 수 있었고, 이를 근거로 ‘三同’과 ‘삭삭기’의 의미가 각각 ‘세 송이’·‘보드라운’일 가능성을 모색할 수 있었다. 한편, 이러한 풀이가 문학적 해석에 줄 영향에 대해서도 언급하였다. 그간 우리는 ‘바삭바삭한’이 주는 ‘메마르고 부정적인 느낌’, ‘꽃 삼백 송이’가 주는 ‘지나친 조건’의 느낌 등으로 인해 정석가의 정서를 필요 이상으로 ‘頑惡하게’ 파악한 측면이 있었다. 하지만, 본고의 해석에 따를 때, 노래의 이 구절들은 보다 雅趣있게 해석할 여지를 지니게 되어 정석가의 전체적 미감에 대한 재고를 요청해 볼 수 있게 되었다.
