Consumer dispute resolution systems in Korea are classified as agreement, mediation, dispute settlement, arbitration by its purpose and effect. Among them, the most effective consumer dispute resolution is consumer dispute settlement. In particular, Dispute settlement of Consumer Dispute Settlement Committee in the Framework Act on Consumer is showing the most exciting performances. However, to strengthen consumer dispute settlement, in the short term, the current laws should be complement about limitations stop effects, relationships between dispute settlement committees, the relationship between litigation and dispute settlement. And in the long term, the comprehensive consumer dispute resolution system improvement and Enactment of the Framework Act on Dispute Resolution are required.

소비자분쟁해결제도는 목적과 효과에 따라 그 유형이 다양하게 분류 되지만, 가장 일반적인 분류인 임의성과 강제성의 정도에 따라 구분하면 화해, 합의권고, 분쟁조정, 중재를 들 수 있다. 이중 가장 효과적인 소비 자분쟁해결제도는 소비자분쟁조정이다. 특히 소비자기본법은 소비자분쟁 조정위원회의 소비자분쟁조정은 가장 활발하게 성과를 보이고 있다. 그러나 소 비자분쟁조정의 실효성을 강화하기 위해서는 단기적으로는 현행 법제를 토대로 소멸시효 중단효, 분쟁조정기관간의 관계, 소송과의 관계, 소비자중재제도 등의 내용을 보완하는 방안이 필요하고, 장기적으로는 종합적인 소비자분쟁해결체계 정비, 분쟁해결 일반법 제정 등이 검토되 어야 한다.
