Analysis of Practicable Factors Increasing City Self-Containment: Case Study of U.S. Cities

The purpose of this study is to present the bases and factors increasing City Self-Containment by analyzing the cases of the U.S. cities including Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland located in the State of Ohio. The analysis indicates that the Columbus has advantages over other two cities in terms of six perspectives such as access for workforce, access to markets, access to resources, capital, cost of living expense, and space. The advantages of the Columbus are detailed in: 1) since capable persons from good educational institutions consist ample workforce, companies take a much interest in recruiting in the area. 2) the City of Columbus attracts a considerable attention from the industries because retail sales in the Columbus is much higher than other two cities due to strong purchasing power of consumption goods. 3) since the Columbus is the capital city of the Ohio, it provides good quality of government service and traffic environment, resulting in the move-in of the companies. 4) the Columbus has two international airports with one for passengers and the other for cargo (freight) planes, which increase the power of the Columbus for the freight shipment.
