Innovative Milieu of Pittsburgh : Knowledge Sharing among Universities and Information Technology Hubs
초록
영어
Cluster concept is frequently applied to explain the effectiveness of knowledge sharing among participants located within a geographical boundary. Pittsburgh is cited as one of the important industrial clusters in the USA. In this paper we analyze the IT cluster in Pittsburgh from the two perspectives: innovative milieu and knowledge sharing. For the analysis we employ regional innovation system theory and R&D chain concept, derived from value chain and inter-firm process linkage theories. Compared with the Silicon Valley, the Pittsburgh IT cluster shows that while the downstream R&D chain is strong, the upstream chain is weak.
