This research examines whether there is any difference between foreign and domestic analysts in their forecasting abilities. Furthermore, we investigate the issue in relation to corporate governance structure and foreign ownership. We found the following interesting results. First, both foreign and domestic analysts overestimate future corporate earnings and sales, consistent with the previous studies. Second, foreign analysts overestimate sales to a greater degree than domestic analysts, whereas domestic analysts overestimate net income and operating income to a greater extent. Third, foreign analysts' ability of forecasting operating and net income is superior to that of domestic analysts. In the meantime, domestic analysts are forecasting sales better. Fourth, when the forecasting date is nearer to the fiscal year-end, analysts' forecasts are more accurate. Fifth, for a firm with better governance structure and higher foreign ownership, forecasting accuracy is better. In particular, foreign analysts are far better at forecasting for a firm with better governance.

본 논문은 한국주식 시장에서 국내 증권사 및 외국계 증권사 애널리스트들의 기업 실적에 관한 추정치들을실측치들 과비교 하여 얼마만큼 예측이 정확했는지, 또 한국내 및 외국계증권사 애널리스트들 간에 예측능력에 차이가 존재하는지 실증 분석하였다. 그리고 기업지배구조에 따른 예측 정확성의 차이에 관하여도 분석하였다. 주요 실증결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국내와 외국계증권사 애널리스트들 모두 매출액, 영업이익, 순이익을 과대 예측하는 경향이 있으며, 이는 국내외 기존연구의 결과와 동일하다. 둘째, 과대 예측정도에 대한 비교에서는 매출액의 경우 외국계 애널리스트가, 영업이익 및 순 이익의 경우 국내 애널리스트가 과대예측 정도가 큰것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 국내와 외국계 애널리스트의 예측 오차절대값을 이용하여 예측의 정확성 내지 예측능력의 차이를 분석한 결과, 매출액은 국내 애널리스트가, 영업 이익 및 순이익은 외국계애널리스트가 예측 능력이 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 이익예측치발표시점과 실제치의 발표 시점간의 시차
와 관련하여 연말로 갈수록, 즉 기업의 실측치 발표시점에 가까울수록 이익 예측 정확성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 기업특성과 관련하여 기업지배구조가 우수한 기업에 대해 특히 외국계 애널리스트의 예측이 더욱 정확하였다.
