Fashion collection makeup has fashionable significance. It not only decorates the external appearance beautifully, but also expresses the values, preference and situation of the makeup artist as a factor of total fashion which includes clothes, hairstyle and accessories, and is considered a concept that is expanding to the level of exchanging elements of society and culture. Subculture style is expressed through a mixture of different features, and existing research results reveal the significance of the power of subculture styles. However, there is a lack of analysis on expression methods of makeup mingled with mainstream culture, and thus subculture makeup has an obscure image. Since modern fashion collection makeup adopts the makeup of subculture styles, it will be helpful to use the information efficiently for research and development of various trends. Subculture is a background of creative expression for designers, and since the various types of makeup styles are applied to current fashion collections, studying this area can help establish a part of new fashion trend.

최근의 패션문화는 다양화·개성화 되고 있는 현대문화의 흐름을 반영하여 패션 디자인 요소들의 다양한 조합을 통해 스타일의 이미지 역시 복잡하고 다양화 되었고 그 미적 범주도 더욱 확장되고 있다. 특히, 메이크업은 의복에 비해 단시간 내에 변화와 변형이 가능하여 이미지 형성에 이어 매우 중요한 세부영역이라고 볼 수 있다. 기존 연구들에서 패션컬렉션에서의 하위문화스타일은 다양한 모습들이 혼합된 형태로 표현되어 왔으며, 하위문화스타일의 전폭적 힘이 상당함을 밝혀주고 있다. 하위문화스타일이 주류문화와 혼합되면서 메이크업에서도 그 형태나 표현 방식이 혼재 되어 나타남을 보여주는 분석이 부족하며 이미지의 정립이 모호한 실정이다. 본 연구는 기존 연구에서 확립된 하위문화스타일 특성들이 1930년대 주트(zoot)스타일 이후 실제 메이크업에 있어서 어떻게 나타났는지 먼저 고찰 하고, 하위문화 메이크업들이 21세기(2000년대 이후) 패션컬렉션메이크업에서는 어떠한 방식으로 표현되고 있는지 연구하였다. 패션 문화 연구에서 특정 스타일이 시대를 관통하며 재등장 하고, 재등장하면서 동시에 새로운 형태로 재해석 되어 보이는 현상을 확인하는데 목적을 둔다. 이를 통해 패션문화 및 이의 세부적 분야인 메이크업에 있어서 과거와 현재, 미래를 아울러 조망할 수 있는 관점을 가질 수 있도록 하는데 연구의 의의가 있다. 하위문화는 디자이너의 창의적인 표현의 부분의 바탕으로서 그 스타일 표현에서의 메이크업이 현재의 패션 컬렉션에서 작용하는 형태가 다양하게 적용되므로 이를 고찰해 봄으로써 새로운 패션 트렌드 형성의 한 부분에 작용할 수 있다.
