The development to which Korean tradition is applied, is very important for the variety of design material. The new image materials are needed for traditional culture development and image cultural industry and visual arts. This study is for the application capability and development of new digital contents using Rock Art which is one of Korean tradition. Theoretically, the worldwide distribution of Rock Art will be studied, and then the figures of Korean Rock Art will be compared with them. The characteristics of figures of Korean Rock Art will be investigated and analyzed. This study have the purpose that it will suggest the applicative capability and material usage direction of semantics, aesthetics, formative arts as distinguished digital contents by visual representation.

우리나라 전통문화를 응용한 개발은 디자인 소재의 다양화에 있어서 매우 중요하다. 전통문화 개발과 영상 문화산업, 시각예술분야에서 새로운 이미지 소재가 필요하다. 본 논문은 우리나라의 전통 문화원형 중 하나인 암각화를 응용한 새로운 디지털 콘텐츠 활용 가능성과 개발을 위한 연구이다. 이론적 고찰에서 세계적으로 분포되어 있는 암각화의 현황을 조사한 후 한국의 암각화에서 보여 지는 인물상을 조사하여 차이점을 분석하고 우리나라 암각화에서 보여 지는 인물상의 특징을 조사 분석 후 시각적 표현요소로서의 차별화된 디지털 콘텐츠로 의미적, 예술적, 조형적 응용 가능성과 소재 사용 방향을 제시하는데 목적이 있다.
