This study comparatively analyzed the faculty evaluation systems of national universities in Korea. The study focused on main issues in faculty evaluation such as the introduction of discipline- or college-based evaluation, relative portion of education and research, measuring of research quality, and the period of evaluation. The study analyzed the faculty evaluation systems of 19 comprehensive, 7 technical, and 11 pre-service teacher education universities. The results showed the following. As a rule, while a large number of comprehensive and technical universities have faculty evaluation systems which reflect the characteristics of discipline or college, most pre-service teacher education universities do not have them. Almost all the universities do not have quality control systems such as peer review of journal papers for evaluating research performance of faculty members. With respect to research product, a large number of universities give more weight on international journal papers or presentations rather than domestic ones. Regarding the period of faculty evaluation, all the universities except a few reflect individuals' performance or products for one year.

이 연구는 대학교수업적평가의 주요 쟁점인 학문영역별 특성의 반영 여부, 연구실적 위주의 평가, 양(量)위주 평가방식, 평가기간의 단기성 등에 대해 국립대학들이 어떻게 대응하고 규정하고 있는지를 분석하고 향후 교수업적평가제도의 발전과제를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해서 19개 국립종합대학, 7개 이공계 및 산업대학, 11개 교육 및 교원대학의 교수업적평가 관련 규정을 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과 상당수의 종합대학과 이공계 산업대학들은 교수업적평가에서 학문의 특수성을 반영하기 위한 방안을 규정하고 있으나, 대부분의 교원 및 교육대학들은 교수업적평가에서 학문의 특수성을 반영하기 위한 방안을 가지고 있지 않았다. 국립대학들은 대체로 질보다는 양 중심으로 연구실적을 평가하고 있고, 국내학술지보다는 국제학술지, 국내학술대회발표보다는 국제학술대회발표에 높은 가중치를 부여하고 있다. 업적평가기간과 관련하여 소수의 대학을 제외하고 대부분 1년 동안의 업적을 교수평가에 적용하고 있다.
